Favorite Songs of 2008

Like a few fingers of Lagavulin, "Red Socks Pugie" has the ability to make me question consuming anything else when it's available.  It's on par with "Like Eating Glass" and "Citizens of Tomorrow" and remains in the heaviest of heavy car rotations.  And Forest Fire has made my favorite album of the year with one of the most raw, honest pieces of art I've heard in a long while.  These are my favorite songs of 2008.

1. Foals - Red Socks Pugie

2. Forest Fire - Slow Motion

3. Santogold - Anne

4. Fleet Foxes - Mykonos

5. Beach House - Gila

6. Empire Of The Sun - Walking On A Dream

7. Grouper - Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping

8. Sister Suvi - The Lot

9. Blind Pilot - 3 Rounds and a Sound

10. The Morning Benders - Crosseyed

11. GZA - Paper Plate

12. The Dodos - Fools

13. Jim Noir - Happy Day Today

14. Frauke - Parasite Fungus

15. A-Ko - Soul '69 (Part II)

16. M83 - We Own The Sky (Maps Mix)

17. Black Kids - I've Underestimated My Charm (Again)

18. Wolf Parade - Language City

19. Lykke Li - I'm Good, I'm Gone (Metronomy Remix)

20. The Walkmen - On The Water

21. Of Montreal - Feminine Effects

22. Bodies Of Water - Gold, Tan, Peach and Grey

23. Passion Pit - Cuddle Fuddle

24. The Menahan Street Band - Make The Road By Walking

25. The Rural Alberta Advantage - Frank, AB

Blind Pilot

I think I reversed jinxed myself...last night I was telling someone I haven't gotten really excited about a band in a while. Today I heard Blind Pilot, two guys from Portland who toured on their bikes through Canada and the west coast. Their new album, 3 Rounds and a Sound, is wildly good. But the title track is, for lack of a more appropriate and less dramatic word, astonishing.

A few days ago I would've knocked their band name, but now it appears they're unintentionally topical. So now there is nothing negative to say about them. Nahsing. This is one of the best bands I've heard all year, and this first track is deserving of heavy, heavy rotation.
